Ki launched as Lloyd’s first fully digital and algorithmically powered syndicate. Since then, we’ve scaled our mission to digitise the entire follow market, offering multiple capacity quotes all at once, all in one place.
Here’s our journey, and how the market has responded.

How we got here
In September 2020, Ki raised US$500m of committed capital from Blackstone and Fairfax. This was the largest industry agnostic fundraise for a startup in Europe in 2020 and makes Ki the largest seed stage fundraise for any insurtech globally to date.
Ki went from an idea to a fully fledged prototype in 6 months. The goal was to empower brokers, to offer capacity faster, digitally, instantly. This meant embedding technology at the heart of the underwriting process. A first for the industry and an entirely new set of challenges to design around.
To build Ki, we brought together market-leading partners with domain knowledge, in Google Cloud, UCL and Brit to collaborate on creating the first algorithmic underwriting approach ever for specialty insurance.
In our first year we underwrote more than US$400m Gross Written Premium, which we more than doubled in our second year of trading.
